About Saint-Denis Basilica
- The first Gothic church ever built in human history.
- Houses the royal necropolis with tombs of over 70 kings, queens, and important figures of France, including Clovis and Francis I.
- Contains funerary monuments honoring Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, who were executed during the French Revolution.
- Features two magnificent stained glass windows, an impressive façade, and a stunning portal.
- Located just 30 minutes from central Paris, accessible by metro line 13 towards Saint-Denis Université, stop at Basilique Saint-Denis.
Opening Hours & Important Information
The basilica closes during religious services and on January 1st, May 1st, and December 25th. The royal necropolis (the “museum” section with its royal funerary sculptures) is part of an active church and is therefore subject to occasional closures.

Wednesday 02 July: open from 10am to 12pm (last entry 11.30am) then from 2pm to 6.15pm (last entry 5.45pm)
· Sunday 06 July: open from 12.30pm to 6.15pm (last entry 5.45pm)
· Saturday 19 July: open from 11.15am to 6.15pm (last entry 5.45pm)
· Sunday 20 July: open from 12.30pm to 6.15pm (last entry 5.45pm)
From May 21 to June 24, the basilica hosts the Saint-Denis Festival. The monument remains open as usual, and visitors may occasionally enjoy orchestra rehearsals during their visit.
